Dorset Carers Counselling Service

Dorset County Council, along with Bournemouth and Poole Councils have recently established a Dorset wide counseling service to support unpaid carers who are helping a family member or friend who is unwell either physically or mentally.

The 2011 census indicated that there were over 82,900 unpaid carers across the County of Dorset and the two conurbations out of a total 744,000 people living in the county.

For several years carers have been able to access counselling through individually funded services in a limited number of locations. These sessions have centred on the challenges, feelings and the relationship with the cared for person as a result of taking on the caring role. From the 1st January, 2017, this initiative is more widely available and being delivered by several agencies across the whole of Dorset. The new service is known as “Time To Talk”.

Carers who qualify for the counseling service are provided with a list of counsellors and contact details and are given a number of agreed sessions.

Erko Psychology are delighted to be part of this new initiative and provide highly experienced counsellors in several locations across Dorset, including Bournemouth and Poole. For details of counsellors provided by Erko Psychology, please see our Counsellor Directory
